Not sure if I am really all that happy in this picture... ha...
I was scheduled for an induction on Tuesday, 9.13.11. The hospital was supposed to call me at 5:30am to let me know what time we were supposed to come in and get things started. They called me at 6:30am and told me they were ready for me right then. I told them I would be there in an hour as I had to make sure my kids were squared away and then drive the 20ish minutes up there.
We arrived at the hospital at around 7:30am, got all checked in and then went to Labor & Delivery. By 8:30am they had gotten me all hooked up to the monitors and an IV going. Right after that they started me on the Pitocin.
8:30am - About 3 cm, 70% effaced & at a -2 station (So.. for 3 weeks I had been a 1 @ 50% and -3.. so in 5 days things finally got moving).
9am - Started on 4ml of pitocin
9:30am - Bumped up to 8ml of pitocin
10:30am - Bumped to 12ml of pitocin (I can feel those contractions.. ha)
11:45am - I'm still at about 3+ cm, 80% & still -2. Pitocin is bumped up to 16ml
1:10pm - I'm at 7+ cm. Painful contractions (they were about 1m 15s apart...) I did get some pain relief that was supposed to take the edge off the contractions. Yah, that lasted for 3 contractions (so less than 5 minutes). Though during that time.. I did express my undying love for my Mike, in-between contractions (he asked the nurse if there were any psychological effects possible from the drugs). Beginning to feel the urge to push.
1:20pm - A really nice nurse came in and put my pitocin down to 8ml, saying that my contractions were too on top of each other
1:35pm - I'm at a 9, fully effaced, baby is right there. I'm begging for drugs at this point.. ha. I'm told that they can't give me anything at this point. I'm told repeatedly not to push. They keep paging my doctor, who isn't responding. I'm told my bags of water are bulging, but they still haven't broken and they can't break them for me (only the doctor can)
1:40pm - I'm really feeling the need to push. The nurse checks me again. I'm fully dilated and as she is checking me, she accidently breaks my water. At this point my doctor walks in and gets set up really quick like.
1:42ish -1:47pm - I'm all set up to push. Baby starts coming out sunny-side up, so the doctor decides to rotate him. He keeps firmly telling me to stop pushing. I have a nurse leaning over me in my face telling me not to push. I'm telling her that I can't help but push. I have 3 nurses, Mike and the doctor around me. I'm thinking this is never going to end.. ha. Next thing I know they are getting his other shoulder loose and then woosh! he's here!
I basically spent most of the time laboring on a birthing ball.. which did the trick up until about a 7. Then really nothing worked. ha.
I tore very little, maybe a stitch was needed. I can't remember if he did or not. The IUD came out imbedded in the placenta wall. The doctor mentioned that there was some dry blood on it, so that probably explained why I bled at 13 weeks. Oh! And then the doc decided to ask me about how I felt about an IUD for birth control... yah... funny guy..
Oliver was born at 1:47pm. With a nice healthy cry. He did great on his apgar. And he immediately started to breast-feed (which if anyone knows me, knows that I struggled a lot with breast-feeding the girls).
Everything looks great with Oliver! He has a hip click, so we have to go get an ultrasound done on his hips at bout 4 weeks and if they see that his hip joint isn't fitting properly into its socket, then he'll have to wear a harness doo-hickie for a few months.
He was 6lbs 10 oz and 19in long at birth. When we left the hospital he was about 6lbs 5 oz. But he is eating like a champ and I am sure will gain weight wonderfully.
I got another rhogam shot, because it seems I can't produce anything but + blood type babies... thanks Mike!
So far my healing process is going better than ever!
Girls love their little brother, ask lots of questions and do their best to help take care of him!
We are happy!
Oliver!
