Our Outgoing Girls: The Boys & Kaylee (Mike, may need to purchase a shotgun)...

So... Boys...

Kaylee seems to already be attracting the boys to her. I noticed this a bit last year in kindergarten. When she would come home, most of her stories about friends and whatnot were about certain boys in her class. I didn't worry too much about it, because Kaylee has always been a good mix of tom-boy & girly-girl, and it would make sense that she would hang out doing more physical activities (like tag, racing, hide-n-seek, etc.).

So, when I went to pick her up from school (on the first day) she had one little boy run up and whisper something in her ear. She informed me that he had invited her to go to 7 peaks in two Saturdays. She also told me about another little boy that had been trying to put a grasshopper in her hair during recess (Mike later informed her that it was probably because the boy thought she was cute). I asked her if she had made any friends that day and she started to count how many friends she had made and to tell me that they were all boys. I asked her if she had made any friends that were girls and she told me, she thought that there was one.

Well... that is ok, right? She's just  a cool girl that enjoys a lot of the fun things boys enjoy. No biggie. Yah...

We were in Provo Saturday night to attend the reception of one of Michael's cousins. Kaylee ran up the drive-way and instantly found a table that had a bunch of young boys (nephews of the bride?) seated at it (granted, there weren't really any young girls that I could see). When we finally made it up the driveway, she came bounding up to us with one of the little boys in tow. He asked if he could show her where the snails were and then they bounded off with Taylor to go and look at all the snails. She spent the rest of the evening with that particular little boy and a few of the other little boys.

Taylor, instantly took to Michael's cousin Meagan and kept telling people that this was her new friend. Meagan was great and walked hand in hand with Taylor all over the place and just hung out with her until it was time for Meagan to go. Both girls were sad to see her go, along with her sister Aubrey that was there too.

Later in the evening, Kaylee came up to ask when they were going to start the dancing, because she had picked out the boy she was going to dance with. The evening kept going, without any dancing (issue with the wiring?). She came back a bit sad, because this boy that she was going to dance with had to go. But not too long after that I did spot her up on the porch with her boy and he was twirling her and they were dancing. Finally, he had to go, but Kaylee was satisfied with the experience. She told me that he was 7 years old and that his name was Corder (quarter? that is what Kaylee is sticking too [she said that is what his mom said]) After this, the music really got going. Kaylee was approached by 3 of the other young boys about dancing. She started off using the 'eeny, meeny, miny, moe' method, but scraped that and just told them in which order she would dance with them. Dancing ensued and all had a great time  (one of the dads of the boys asked if Mike had purchased a shotgun yet)! Even Taylor found her one boyz-ez (she likes to add an 's' to words and then an extra 'ises' to that) and held hands with him and danced. She was quite proud of her one boy.

---------

Michael likes to call the girls our ambassadors, because for the most part Mike & I are pretty reserved people in our interactions with people we meet, and associate with. They will make friends instantly (Taylor mostly following Kaylee's lead, but she does step out on her own quite often) wherever they go. They aren't afraid to talk with people they don't quite know (adults or kids). And (when not tired) usually will give hugs and kisses to family members (or close friends of ours), even ones they don't get too much interaction with (live far away).

So, yes, we have very outgoing girls. Something, we hope to continue to foster in them. Because, they are wonderful, happy, kind girls... who, we feel, can influence those around them for good. Besides, they make things fun!
