If anyone knows me well, they know I start to get a little weird in the brain (some may say I am always weird in the brain) when I'm not learning about something.
Before I was blessed with pregnancy, I had some sweet goals for 2011. I had this amazing gospel study plan laid out for the New Testament (which, is moving forward a lot quicker these days). Mike & I had 12 monthly challenges laid out (that may be a 2012 goal, though the world is supposed to end... so who knows). I had other various personal, couple, parenting, organizational, etc. goals. I love goals! And! Learning usually accompanies goals, so to me it is a win-win situation.
Lately, I've been on a crafty kick (may have something to do with the upcoming bundle of joy). I've been gathering some fabrics for baby blankets, which has been an interesting experiment (turns out I don't know much about fabrics, and my math needs brushing up on.. yay...). The other thing I have been really into lately is crocheting (someday I may actually pick up knitting needles again, but those last ones deserved being thrown across the room). I've had varying interest in crocheting over the years, but I think I may have finally taken the plunge into doing something more than a chain.
I really do wish there was someone close at hand who was able to physically show me how to crochet. Suffice it to say, YouTube videos & some choice websites (found via Google) have been my teachers. My mom occasionally gets calls of frustration from me.
Anyway, over the last week... I've been making lots of squares as I practice different stitches and whatnot. Oh the joys of working out kinks. But! Last night I decided that my lingo and understanding of crocheting was decent enough to try out making a simple drawstring bag!
This is the second one I made. Mike was there during the first and I kept giving him daggers when he would understand something quicker than I (I am supposed to be better than him at something, right!?!?! I mean, the man doesn't even crochet!!!). It took me a few tries to get my circle going. Anyway, this is bag number two! First time adding a decretive border (and another color). There are a few finishing kinks to work out and I don't really know how to tie bows to make them look pretty. This is old yarn (I've had for years) that I have been practicing with (I didn't want to get any nice yarn, until I was actually able to make something).
I was pleased when my brain decided to become aware of the fact that this basic draw string bag can be flipped upside down and would work decently for simple baby beanies. So, so.. excited to make a BAJILLION of those. Bags & beanies aren't the only things I am looking to make, but they are a good start!
Anyway, they will get prettier in the future (gift worthy & whatnot). For now, my girls have a ton of fun stuffing toys in them and swinging them around by their drawstrings.

Nice! It is good to know that my kids are not the only ones who love to have little bags to stuff things in. I wouldn't worry if Michael figures it out quickly, I think Matthew had a few lessons from Grandma Webb on stuff like crocheting and Michael might have been there too.
ReplyDeleteWe refer to it as "Crotch-it" in our home. I just hope you haven't given Hailey any ideas.
